Tenna Dipper

Four State QRP Group offers this great low power and low cost antenna analyzer. The kit is easy to put together and after initial tests it gets 8 (of 10) in my kit-scale. I replaced the fine tune pot with a 10-turn pot for easier operation. Original preselect switches were bypassed. I also replaced the led indicator with a proper meter and this makes operating the device again a step easier.

I tested it with my tribander yagi and 80m dipole because I already knew the resonant points of these. Bit of a surprise was that it easily found the correct spots with only two "ghost spots" which were most probably Tenna Dippers own harmonics. Anyway these ghosts were way out of ham bands.

This project is now waiting for a proper enclosure but even now I can say that this little gadget is well worth the few bucks if you accept the fact that it is not a tool for a rocket scientist.

Continues...
I came across a 60's CB-transformer box and it had plenty of room for all incredients of this soup. Three more holes, some black paint and a door handle and thats it - a finished retro-style antenna analyzer!

And then to the final ultimate test: magnetic loop. I set the Tenna Dipper to 14060 kHz and adjusted the small loop easily without running between the rig and the antenna and shecking SWR thousand times. Not a single harmonics here - just one dip and thats it. Couldn't be happier with the result.

Pictures of the project:

Kuva 1 Assembled kit
Kuva 2 Conducting tests with meter connected instead of the original led indicator.
Kuva 3 First fitting to an old transformer box
Kuva 4 And thats it!
Kuva 5 I thought this little protoype would have been too much for Tenna Dipper
